Welcome to the Lampshade Loft Blog

My name is Jane Warren and I love interiors - especially how they are lit up and enhanced by lovely lampshades. I make shades and teach you how to as well, so sign up and learn how to make them in your own choice of fabric.

In my blog here I offer tips on how to make the best lampshades - oversized, using paper, if to line or not and other random subjects all to do with shades!

Please read about my collaborations and inspirations on this blog, and sign up to receive my newsletter to hear more news and tips!

New lampshade making workshops added

Please check out our workshops page to see if you are free on the dates to come and join us in how to make lovely lampshades.

You can choose to make a contemporary drum shade - just bring along half a meter of your own fabric, get a kit from the lovely Clothkits shop and learn in a three hour workshop how to make a wonderful lampshade. As well as going home with your lovely shade, you will also be equipped with the knowledge to make many more shades, in all shapes and sizes and will know how to make them using paper, adding trims, how to re-make a shade from a much loved original or using one you have found in a charity shop that needs a bit of TLC. Please contact Clothkits for all information on prices and booking details (the link is on our Workshops page).

Or you may prefer to bring to life a traditional skil - that of making a hand sewn lampshade, using traidtional methods such as binding a frame, making your lampshade cover template, a lining and hand sewing onto the frame. You will also be shown how to make traditional trims and additions.

OR you can choose to come to both classes! dates are listed for both classes on the Clothkits website.

You will be taught to a high skill level but need no previous experience. You can then go on to make more for fun or to make them to a high professional level for a future career.
